The survey evaluation dashboard gives you a high-level overview of submitted answers. When too many different answers are submitted to the same question, the dashboard groups them into an Other row in some reports.
This article shows you how to use a predefined survey dashboard to view the answers that are grouped under Other.
Duplicate and customize your survey dashboard
- Open your survey and go to the Evaluate tab.
- Select Copy survey to dashboard.
- You will be redirected to your new dashboard.
- Click the report containing the survey question you want to customize.
- You will be redirected to the report you can edit.
Text field questions
Open-text questions (text field) allow participants to enter custom answers. The default survey evaluation tab shows reports for common answers and groups rare or unique ones under Other.
Display all responses
- Navigate to the respective report in your copied dashboard.
- Go to the drill-down section in the report.
- Set Grouping to None and preview the report. You should now be able to see all the answers.
Grouping capitalized, uppercase, or lowercase answers
Answers with the same wording but different capitalization (for example, "yes", "Yes", "YES") are displayed separately and not automatically grouped together.
To group these values together:
- Navigate to the report in your copied dashboard.
- Go to the drill-down section in the report.
- Set Format to String, and choose either Capitalize or Lowercase.
Excluding blank space and undesired values
Some of the answers may include undesired values, such as a blank value, a dot, or some other punctuation.
To exclude blank values:
- Navigate to the respective report in your copied dashboard.
- Go to the drill-down section in the report.
- Edit the aggregate by clicking the eye icon, then add a filter: answer has value.
Additionally, you can exclude answers containing only punctuation or unwanted values using the not in filter in the aggregate.
Multiple choices
Multiple-choice questions allow users to select several answers. By default, the dashboard groups all selected combinations, which can make it harder to quickly see how often each individual answer is chosen.
To see how often an individual's answer was selected:
- Navigate to the respective report in your copied dashboard.
- Create a metric for each answer defined in the survey.
-
Select the answer attribute, apply any item and equals filters, then enter the answer to view its selection frequency.
- You need to use any item because the answer is stored as a list.
- Specify the relevant survey_id and question name in the Event filter within Report filters at the bottom of the report.
Single choice + 'Add other' option
Single-choice allows users to select only one answer; adding an Add other option allows users to enter a custom value.
Most responses will be predefined, while custom answers will mostly fall under the Other category.
To display all responses as described in the Display all responses section, open the report, go to the drill-down section, and select None in grouping.
If you want to analyze only custom answers, you can filter out the default answers. The principle is the same as in the Excluding blank space and undesired values section.
Tip: After you finish customizing, you can add your new dashboard to the survey evaluation tab. To do that, click on the plus (+) button next to the Results tab, and add the dashboard.
