Bloomreach can’t currently disable only email open tracking while keeping click tracking enabled for the same send. Its email Tracking Consent setting controls opened and clicked statuses together.
Why this happens
Bloomreach records email opens by inserting a 1×1 tracking pixel into the email HTML. Bloomreach records email clicks by rewriting tracked links so the click passes through the Bloomreach tracking domain before the customer lands on the final destination. Although these mechanisms are technically different, they are currently managed together for email sends, so there is no native setting that removes only the open pixel while preserving standard click tracking for all links.
What you can do instead
If you need to suppress tracking unless the customer has explicitly agreed to it, use a Tracking Consent Category. When tracking consent is enabled and configured, Bloomreach tracks opened and clicked statuses only for recipients who have the required tracking consent. If the recipient doesn't have that consent, the email is still sent, but open and click tracking aren't recorded for that send.
Enabling Tracking Consent doesn't automatically change every email. Campaigns or email nodes without a configured tracking-consent category continue tracking normally.
If you need to track a specific essential link before consent is collected, you can use the xnpe_force_track URL parameter on that individual link. This is a link-level override, not a general setting for the whole email.
If you use the Transactional Email API
The same tracking-consent behavior can also be applied to transactional emails through the settings.consent_category_tracking parameter, and optionally settings.consent_category when needed for consent logic.
Reporting impact
If you enable tracking consent for email, your open and click metrics will reflect only the recipients for whom the tracking was allowed. This means open rates and click-through rates may drop compared with emails where tracking was applied to everyone.
FAQ
Can I turn off open tracking for all emails globally?
No. There is no single global setting that disables only open tracking across all emails while keeping normal click tracking active.
Can I disable opens but keep clicks for only one market or locale?
Not as a separate built-in toggle. The supported approach is still consent-based tracking rather than a market-specific “open off, click on” setting.
Can I manually inject the native tracking pixel with Jinja only for consented users?
This isn't the recommended or supported approach. Tracking should be managed through the Tracking Consent settings at the project, campaign, or email-node level.
Who enables Tracking Consent?
The feature is disabled by default. Contact your Customer Success Manager to confirm the activation process and get help with the setup.
Summary
If your goal is no open pixel, but normal click tracking for the whole email, that is not supported today. The closest supported options are:
- use Tracking Consent for both opens and clicks, or
- use Tracking Consent and force tracking only on specific links with
xnpe_force_trackwhen that is appropriate for your use case.
