The easiest way to analyze a scenario’s activity over time is by using a Timeline Report. This allows you to see when scenario-related events occurred and, depending on how you configure the report, understand how frequently the scenario was triggered or how users progressed through it.
Add a timestamp to the report rows
Start by adding a timestamp to the report’s rows. This creates the timeline around which the rest of the report will be built.
You can choose the level of granularity that best fits your use case, such as:
- Month - useful for a high-level overview
- Day - useful for monitoring daily activity
-
Hour - useful for more detailed analysis or troubleshooting
Add a count campaign event metric
Next, add a Count Campaign event metric to measure the number of relevant events occurring during each period on the timeline.
This gives you a basic view of how much activity the scenario generated over the selected time period.
Filter the metric to specific scenario events
If you are interested in a particular part of the scenario, you can further filter the metric to include only specific scenario events.
For example, you may want to look specifically at events related to:
- Scenario entry
- A particular scenario node
- Specific campaign events
- Users reaching a particular step in the scenario
Filtering the metric makes the report more focused and helps you isolate the activity you are interested in, rather than looking at all campaign events.
Drill down into the report columns
For a more detailed analysis, you can add attributes to the report’s columns. For example, you could use the campaign status attribute to break down activity by status.
This allows you to move beyond from seeing how much activity occurred and understanding what kind of activity was taking place.
Overall, the level of detail you get depends on how you configure the timestamp granularity, metric filters, and column drill-downs. A simple setup with a timestamp and count metric can provide a quick, topline overview of scenario activity, while adding filters and additional dimensions can give you a much more detailed picture of what has been happening within the scenario over time.
