URL options while creating new Page

When a user is creating a new prototype page, then the URL options shown are only related to the prototype pages and does not show the list of experience pages.

Symptoms

The URL option would not be visible for the experience pages.

Steps to check the issue

  1. Go to any channel in the experience manager and click on ‘New’ option under the Page button menu

  2. Fill in the page title and click on the ‘URL’ dropdown.Fill in the page title and click on the ‘URL’ dropdown.


     
  3. You can see that the dropdown shows an option to select only the prototype pages which are created.
     

Solution
 

The experience manager does not allow us to create prototype pages under experience pages. It is suggested to avoid doing this even through the console.

The experience pages are actually developed to replace the prototype pages therefore the best practice is to not combine/mix up the two types of pages. 

If that is done, then there could be multiple problems such as :

  • User will run into such cases where they cannot mix two different kind of pages, where they would be unable to create new page one type below another page type
  • Sitemap structure growing too long
  • No publication workflow with prototype pages
  • Cannot take the newly created prototype pages offline
