Issue
Customers working with Bloomreach CMS often face challenges in managing translations, particularly when linking or unlinking translated documents and folders. This issue typically arises in multilingual environments where maintaining proper connections between translated content is essential for consistency and accuracy.
Symptom
Users encounter difficulties managing translations in Bloomreach CMS, particularly when attempting to link or unlink translated documents and folders. This is most commonly seen in multilingual environments where maintaining relationships between translated content is required for consistency and accuracy.
- Attempts to link existing translations fail or produce unexpected associations.
- Unlinking a translation removes or breaks relationships in unintended locales.
- Translation status appears inconsistent across locales after linking/unlinking actions.
Resolution
- When a document is translated, all available language options are shown, including those the document was previously translated into. If a language does not have a '+' symbol, it means the document has already been translated into that language.
- For the unlinking issue, when you select 'Unlink,' it will display a list of folders linked to different translation language folders. Only the selected folder will be unlinked from the translations
Additional Notes
-
Linking Translated Documents:
When you translate a document in CMS, it creates a linked translated document. This is done by the CMS which sets the same UUID in the
hippotranslation:idproperty of the linked documents. Manually changing this can fix unexpected issues. -
Unlinking Translated Documents:
Users should have the option to unlink translations for a single language. However, the current implementation unlinks all translated folders when you select unlink, which can be a concern for users who only want to unlink a specific language translation.
-
PaaS/brXM clients can add this plugin that lets them link/unlink individual documents.
Please refer Document Translation Picker for more information. - SaaS customers can use the API : Unlink Content
- If you need to unlink a specific language translation, you may need to manually unlink the folders using the API or contact Bloomreach Support for assistance.

-
Deleted Translated Documents:
If a translated document is deleted, the parent document still shows the translated option. This can be confusing as it indicates that the translation still exists. Ensure that when a translated document is deleted, the parent document's translation status is updated accordingly. This may require manual intervention or a review of the translation linking process.
